Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American visual artist and a pioneer of the Pop Art movement. His works span painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture, and examine the relationship between art, advertising, and celebrity culture prevalent in the 1960s. Notable works include Campbell's Soup Cans (1962) and Marilyn Diptych (1962), film Empire (1964) and Chelsea Girls (1966), and multimedia event Exploding Plastic Inevitable (1966-67).
