Doug LaRue is a Texas-based contemporary artist whose work spans painting, photography, film, and media design. Raised in a family that blended engineering precision with fine art creativity, LaRue developed an early passion for visual storytelling that led him to study photography at Southern Methodist University and earn a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture.

His career has ranged from medical illustration at Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine to documentary film and photography projects with organizations including The History Channel, Harvard University, University of Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M, United Press International, and Associated Press. LaRue has worked with and for Grammy and Academy Award winners, he has directed films, produced media campaigns, and founded Glaze Studios, a creative media agency in Austin.

His artwork has appeared in exhibitions across Texas, including Austin Studio Tour, Ardest Gallery, and Round Rock Arts & CultureFort Worth Community Arts Center, Austin City Hall and Texas State Capitol Building. His work is held in collections such as the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University, the City of Austin Music Archives  and the Austin Public Library.

LaRue currently serves as Executive Producer of Austin Art Park and is currently artist-in-residence and curator at NeWorld Gallery in Austin, where his latest body of work continues to explore expressive contemporary themes.

* This exhibit will focus several of LaRue's original conceptual paintings and mixed media works.
